Second attempt at lost foam casting, at least it's a shape this time

I have an old aluminum pot that I was going to melt down. I decided to use it to cast in instead. I cut 2 round pieces of foam, one larger for the body and another 1.5" diameter one for the lathe chuck and the spare. Due to the small diameter of the pot I elected to skip the soup can coral thinking that it would all flow into the hole without a problem, I was wrong. I ended up with something resembling a Cylon (from '80's Battlestar) mother ship after it tries to take a shortcut through the sun.

So, here's my second attempt of the day, I cut out a foam Texas and put 2 sprues on it. I encircled them individually for the pour. Definitely better than the circle I tried earlier. 20200825_130655_copy_1512x2016.jpg 20200825_130714_copy_1512x2016.jpg 20200825_130747_copy_1512x2016.jpg

Looks like progress to me! Try a longer sprue, 4" deep is a good starting point for burying the pattern. More head pressure should help push the metal all the way into the corners.
