Thanks guys. Having fun. It's like eating an elephant, just take one bite at a time. I got back to some pattern making today. I set the nose in modeling clay and poured POP to form a mold for a Bondo pattern. The grill in the '41 has 50 curved vertical bars that will end up being .070" so I expect I will have to machine them in a cast blank. We shall see.
The POP pattern and the Bondo pattern of the grill, and the finished grill in the machining fixture cast from the POP pattern. The setup with the slitting saw . In the nose.
I hope so, it is scary fragile with just a 1/4" ring around the perimeter that is 1/16" in spots. I'll have to keep it in the fixture while doing that.
I wire beaded the rear fenders and started fitting the body to the frame. I went back and couldn't find a shot of the frame so I'll add it here. I reduced an Ebay set of plans and welded it up from 1/2" X 1" tube I made from old treadmill frames.
Candy tangerine? or maybe candy brandywine? What color do you picture? I have alot of HOK stuff sitting around....
I spent the day yesterday hanging the left door and then hung the right side in an hour and a half this morning. I will need to finish the metalwork before I do that since I won't have access to the inside of the inner panel.
If you are proud, and REALLY-REALLY sure of your body work, then there's only one color - the most glossy black that you can find. Just be aware that it will highlight every minor bump or defect in your body work. This thing is small enough, relatively, that you don't have any really large panels where ripples would show up. I'd say go for it, but then I'm a glutton for punishment - I once painted a '66 Impala gloss black. Don
Black isn't a color. It's a part time JOB! I vote for a dark plum that is not quite a black, but really close to it. I can't wait to see what he does for wheels.
Let me whip these out! I thought I had posted these before, either here or AA, but can't find the thread.
OOOOHHHHH... Baby's got some nice new shoes! Ok Jason, as the owner of 2 black vehicles I'll give you that point. But then again, there's 75% less here to polish. How about a nice dark blue candy over a metal-flake base, with lots of overlapping flames? That way this thing looks like it's going fast even when it's not running. ESC, know any good pin-stripers? This beast will need some, maybe a lot. Don
