Feel like I'm on a roll. I accumulated a few patterns during the Winter cold spell and now that Mother Nature has blessed the Midwest with 50-60F temps in February, I've been pouring lots of metal to take advantage. Here's the latest.

Nice. I just watched the video and man there is so much info to absorb. I'm far from getting close to those results.

Can this lost foam method be used for parts that are 20mm thick? I hope so.

Yes, but whether lost foam or conventional sand casting, casting and feed system design become more important as cross sections become thicker.

Ok, I guess I'll know for sure when I try to cast it.
As for my avatar, being new here, I just quickly picked an image that I had on my desktop. It's of a 3 cylinder radial steam engine that I started working on a couple years ago.
I got the crankshaft, pistons, connecting rods and heads cast and some are partially machined.
Things are kind of all over the place and I'm just settling into my new place. Now that the snow is slowly melting away and I can get into my shed, I'll try and post a picture of the heads and the pattern of it, if I can find them. Those pieces were done in grey iron.

In any case, next weekend I'll try casting the thick pieces and if I have to , I'll adjust as I go.

    Thanks
