    It just occurred to me that I no longer know what PLA stands for. Shouldn't there be a dictionary of sorts that a person using this site can refer to when trying to know what abbreviations stand for? For instance, PoP, plaster of paris; SS, sodium silicate, and of course BP.

    PLA = Polylactic Acid
    BP = British Petroleum

    Thanks, Polylactic Acid, got it. BP?, well maybe the same area of concern.

    Of course Polylactic Acid wouldn't do me much good without knowing it's context. Outside of the super common ones maybe a person could make a practice of spelling it out at its first use like in the SL (subject line) or in the OP (original post) or within a thread as needed.
    Sometimes it's just not appropriate, like my monogram: PEE
    Thanks Mom.

    With all the lost foam casting getting done here, a couple more TLA's seem in order:

    EPS: Expanded PolyStyrene foam (white beaded packaging material)
    XPS: eXtruded PolyStyrene foam (pink/blue insulation panels)

    Seems they should be the opposite. Which is why I'm sticking with "white and pink". And why did Corning and Dow decide to go with baby boy and girl colors?

    BP is black powder, a mix of potasium nitrate, charcoal and sulpher that acts as mould release when added to a blind riser.....
