My last crucible finally arrived, an A2o to join my A10 and A6. It only took 6 months due to COVID. Now I can start construction of my beer keg furnace. I tested out my new welder 2 weeks ago and finished rebuilding the milling machine.
Those are good crucibles, that's what I use. And ya know, they are about the same price as the no name junk ones sold on amazon.
I went to buy a silicon carbide crucible from Morgan and the local dealer was out of stock. He did have something called a "Himelt" silicon carbide crucible which is a brown-red colour. It's intended for gas and oil fired furnaces and supposed to be more resistant to fluxes and with a higher thermal conductivity than usual. Cost was about $250 Aussie dollary-doos or $190 USD for a AHM25 (25 size) crucible. https://www.morganmms.com/en-gb/products/crucibles/morganite/excel-himelt/ https://www.canfieldjoseph.com/assets/files/Foundry/Crucibles/MorganMMS-EXCEL-HIMELT-Crucibles.pdf
Nice vise, looks like an old one maybe a "Olympia tools 5", I've seen a restoration video of the same one with the rotating jaws (square/round).
Now buy a replacement crucible as soon as you fire your first one. I find I want a replacement immediately when I finally figure out I need to retire a crucible.
Yes, it is a 5 in a multi-purpose vise. It was a fun project, but I probably paid to much for it. Attached is a before picture.
