    This column was erected in Hangar 6 on Ford Island, HI close to 100 years ago, and then had this hole punched in it 79 years ago this morning.
    I demolished it in 1985 and brought this piece home.

    That's a great piece of history. Good on you ESC for preserving it. Hopefully you can pass it along to one of your family members in the very distant future.

    Thanks guys. They used to light the beacon on Mt Diablo in the Eastbay area of San Francisco on December 7th. From the peak, about one third of California is visible on a clear day, and the beacon was used to guide early aviation. I met a number of Pearl Harbor survivors and gave them pieces I had cut off to clean up the ends.
    They are all gone now. I think the last Arizona sailor died this year.
