Zap, no Dragon's breath comes out the vent hole or around the lid.

    Gotta remember, I run propane.

Brian Oltrogge runs oil/forced air in his keg furnace and I've never noticed any DB come out of his either.

Of course his top vent hole looks like it's only 2 inches, which for the life of me don't know how his furnace even operates with such a small vent.
Can only imagine the back pressure in that thing.

Nice fab work OCD. Can't remember but was the addition of the outriggers for added stability or are ya planning some other add-ons as well?

I made a set of similar outriggers for my furnace rig but the only time I have ever used them is when I use the crane for swapping furnace bodies. Careful cuz they are shin and ankle grabbers. If interested the outriggers and crane are shown halfway down this post at my build thread.

    http://www.alloyavenue.com/vb/showt...nace-Build-Log&p=187797&viewfull=1#post187797

I have an extension for the crane sketched up that just installs into the end of it with the other end on post and wheels so it can act as a gantry that walks around to pick and place molds or crucibles......haven't had the need for that yet and also already have a crucible cart to handle the big crucibles. The sand box you mention is a nice touch. I store a couple of big ingot trays under my furnace base to serve the same purpose.

Look forward to seeing the rest of what you have up your sleeve.

    Best,
    Kelly

Originally I figured the weight of the furnace would keep the thing planted down when raising and spinning the lid therefore I didn't really give much thought to the Fulcrum aspect.

I was WRONG and should have never Assumed anything.

If somebody where to replicate this set up and didn't want to end up building the OR additions I would highly recommend the 3" x 3" side tubing in the main framing be extended backwards by a good 18" which would make the footprint 19"w x 37" D and place the back wheels 2" behind the foot pedal and would eliminate the teeter / flawed aspects.

Once the main framing of the dolly was built it became apparent the weight of the lid alone along with an unbalanced setup wasn't going to work because the entire setup would teeter backwards when stepping down on the foot pedal to raise the lid mechanism.

The OR ordeal was originally a joke but quickly became a need and a reality to make the contraption truly and safely work.

The biggest dilemma I encounter with this portion of the build is that "None" of the steel I was working with ideally fit within the attaching component so there was ALOT of adding spacers, tabs, plates, etc. and in once instance of the 4 main slide rails which go into the main frame tubes spacers had to be added along with slide plates and then they were slightly too tight so that had to be GROUND down to acquire the necessary clearance for smooth operation.

Not complaining as I paid almost next to nothing for the steel but it sure would have been nice to have everything that was ideally just cut, weld and paint.

That was another ordeal with this steel.
Everything square inch had to be sanded/ground down to virgin clean metal inside and out.
Then each and every single piece went for a 20 minute swim in the phosphoric acid vat and allowed to dry over night.
Then it all had to be extensively wire brushed.

Here's the entire process of the build.
    Sorry, no music.
    Just learning my editing software.
This is a slide show edited into a movie so it could be uploaded to YT and of course linked here for you guys to see the steps involved with building this contraption.

    What software are you using?

    Windows 8.1

Movie Maker, what came with my LT.

Before you even go there, Shotcut only supports 7+ and under.

I was on line looking for some free have arsed editing program and when I went to install started getting all the, @&*$^%$&&*$$$$$$$$ Hook & Line crap.

I had the same issue with all the free crap. I had good luck once with freemake. Might try that program. I never had windows 8. Went from 7 to 10. Shotcut works great on my windoze 10 laptop.
It should work on your 8.1.

What are the minimum system requirements?
    Operating system: 64-bit Windows 7 - 10, Apple OS X 10.8 - 10.10, or 64-bit Linux with at least glibc 2.13.

CPU: x86-64 Intel or AMD; at least one 2 GHz core for SD, 2 cores for HD, and 4 cores for 4K.

GPU: OpenGL 2.0 that works correctly and is compatible. On Windows, you can also use a card with good, compatible DirectX 9 or 11 drivers. We do not have a list.

RAM: At least 4 GB for SD, 8 GB for HD, and 16 GB for 4K.

Hard drive: yes, get one; the bigger, the better :)

My LT is a beast and can handle just about anything.

Shotcut’s sight stated the program was only comparable with 7+ and under.

    I’ll give it a try.

I think you'll like it. I haven't found anything it can't do yet. If you want to make a slide show, you drag the photos to the time line. Then stretch them for the length of time you want them displayed. Also, you can easily add an audio track. the support for that program on YT is insane. Got a question, hit the search on YT. Folks live to make videos on how to use it.

Been playing with Shotcut and figured this belonged in here as well.
Still in the process of finding all the options and how they work in the program.
I plan on doing a complete video after everything is totally completed and the furnace gets it's first taste of molten metal.

Thanks Jason for taking some time to help me navigate around SC and become familiar with the software.

Be honest, what's the verdict here?

But I did 'Like' it! YouTube weirdness? The thumb thingie was still lit up when I went back to it just now to check.

Waitaminute, did you just trick me into giving you another 'View'?!:D

I gave you a thumb. Jeff is the one who turned us on to this gem of a piece of software. Every time I use shotcut, it impresses me. The support on YT is just the icing on the cake. That software will do some cool tricks if ya just take the time to research what you want and learn how to make it happen. I'm still dorking with getting text onscreen and next I need to learn about voice over.
John, your videos will only get better the more practice you have. Watch just the last 7mins of part 4. Big difference from my first try at shotcut. Youtube also does another neat trick, pause a video... Right click it and select "copy video URL at current time.... Makes it easy to share just part of a video. But it's strange this forum screws up my timed link. :-/

Jeff, I was talking about here, not Idiot Tube. Sheesh

See what happens to ya when you hang out in the back of the class with pregnant chicks, pot heads AND Jason??? :p

    Jason,
To date, I have never gotten that URL chop option off of YT to work on any forum.
    Good luck with that one.

I love the build, but the outriggers terrify me...

If there's ever going to be a 2.0 build, consider just making the foot print a little larger than the furnace body. Work nearly as well and you won't need to endure the obstacle race if you need to vacate in an emergency.

Gentlemen, the outriggers are going to be the foot base for planks I'm making.

You won't be walking around the riggers but on top of them.

Additionally, a hoisting system will be fabricated as well for crucible removal and the hoist will interlock into the OR structure as well.

    JV,

If the display of the OR's in the video scare you then this ought to TERRIFY you. [IMG]
And these aren't even fully extended.
They can go out another 10".
