Tobho Mott suggested I join you all. Always happy to find another solid community of casters and metal peeps. I have been casting and playing molten metal for a long time. Looking forward to joining the conversation. All the best
Welcome to the home foundry, glad you made it. Jason, you do recognize him, Eric is the guy with the video about customizing ceramic slurry. Eric, Jason is worldtraveler from your video's comments section. Jeff
Good to be here and thxs for you comments on my channel. I cast mostly bronze and aluminum with propane and have a cupola for iron that i do once a year (or when needed). I mainly use ceramic shell but do sand at times as well (green, petrobond, resin).
How large of a piece can it melt? The limited experience I have with one is that the smaller cupolas need smaller bits of scrap iron. Still want one though
She's a hot momma. In time, I'd enjoy seeing a little more about her construction and operation. Any links to such? Best, Kelly
Next time I fire her up ill do a dedicated video on her construction and running. As for the size of the iron for the charges we shoot for Doritos size chunks. to start with, but after a few taps and we are cruising we can up it a bit. The throat of the furnace is 14" so I try to keep the iron less then 3". I most melt old cast iron radiators. For now here are links to a couple of videos that show a little of what she can do. This first one is a video montage of one of my past iron pour events. And this one is a little promo video that was done on my shop "Lunarburn Studio" My partner in crime in these videos is Kelly Ludeking of IronHead out of Minneapolis.
