First pour went well. Did 3 molds including the screw. Nothing crazy happened so I hope it went ok. Small shrinkage hole in the pouring cone so we will see how it turns out in a couple mins when it's cool enough to crack open.

Ok ok I got too impatient. Cracked it open. Looks good. No defects that I can see. Will cool it more and blast it for final inspection. The eagle is next.

  3. The cracks in the panels looked to me like the panels were restrained and bowed inward into the furnace. The warpage Kelly showed would have caused them to bow outward. It looks to me like the panels grew from the heat and expanded into the box to relieve their stress against the cooler metal frame. Was that possible?

The Satanite coating shrank when cured. A very thin coating with a lot of water will shrink more than a drier mixture. That made the surface area on face of the coated face of the board smaller. That would make the board concave or like looking into a dish. I think that's what the pictures and fractures show. Seen it occur in many materials....composites too.

    Best,
    Kelly

I did use a very watery mix.

The eagle finally cast bros! And it looks like a good copy from what I can see.

Still 1 to 2 more pours left to do tonight. 2nd bird and other stuff. It's like Christmas of my own doing.

Here are some sneak peeks. I'll clean them up and sort the photos into their respective threads for completeness later.

Here's an interesting design for getting shells out.

Yeah I saw that the other day. Square pouring cups?? I don't think so.

Yeah I wonder if it would work better? Seems a bit weird to me but then again so did square sprues initially.
