I noticed that every posting, including replies has a “Like” and a “Reply” button at the end, except mine. Have I missed something in the setup. I’m not up to speed with forum protocols yet. Jim
That's normal. No one sees a “Like” button on their own posts, they only appear on other peoples posts.
Only half daft, you should be seeing a "Reply" button on your own posts. Here's what I see, a reply button on my own post and both buttons on your post.
I wish we had a "your post is BS button" Heres a like for asking the question. We yanks dont hear plonks being thought of as daft too often. I find it refreshing personally.. You are not being daft. Are you guys under heavy lockdowns these days??
Jason, I haven’t been called a “Plonker” since my army days.Well deserved for being a numpty! Yes we are in total lockdown until at least December 2nd. Doesn’t really make much difference to us though, my wife is ill, so we have been shielding for the past 9 months anyway. The only thing that keeps me sane, is my workshop. Stay safe Jim
Numpty? Is that like a nutter? I might have to look that one up. They are threatening the same here in some areas. And if biden and his hoe get crowned, he will lock us down until the market crashes. Somehow I dont think he will get the chance. Now he is a real plonker! First time I heard that was watching fools and horses. take care, this bs should be over soon.
It’s pretty obvious that your not a socialist Jason, so I think you will like this one:- Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.” - Winston Churchill
Not quite a nutter, Numpty falls into the same category as:- “Idiot”, “Twit”, “Not the sharpest tool in the toolbox”
I regularly describe myself as a 'muppet' Where abouts in the UK are you Jim? Our nearest town in Suffolk has just acheived one of the worst infection rates in the country. We haven't attempted two up riviting at 2 meters apart yet although I suppose I could tape the block to a broom handle LOL
Hi Muppet, I can claim that title sometimes, more frequently the older I get I’m based in the North East, Darlington, I think we are about mid-range on the covid crap. Sounds like you might be building a Van’s, most of the other light aircraft are either Tupperware or pop rivets. I built an RV6 a while back, then a Bristell and I just finished a Glasair Sportsman, that was only about 12000 bucked rivets
Jim, currently I'm doing my best to break everything on two (yes greedy!) Hawker Hurricanes, one MK1 and a MK2 converted to two seat dual control. If I ever see the tail end of an SP83 406 rivet again it will be too soon. My old fingers are shattered blocking rivets in the wing. There's a thread over in general. We are over in Elmsett airfield, when this crap is over you'll have to drop in. We run an engine test on the MK2 next week (tie down to the apron and run the merlin to full chat for it's 25hr) will get a video (with sound!!!!)
Funny.. You guys call it blocking and we say bucking here. Yes... A video is a must on that engine run! I know a guy in San Antonio that has a PALLET of tungsten bars that are new in the box. They were for airplane ballast for the military. Now, he custom machines these things into bucking bars. Better than any fat chunk of steel you'll ever hold onto. He's making a killing selling these to the mechanics.
Yep, Graham has some blocks that were balancing weights from a DC10 not sure on the alloy but they are a bit too effective for a 3/32" tail in my hands (read flatten the **** out of the tail and drill out start again) Crap photo but at least some of these skin pins are back in the box now...
The DC-10 had around 1000Kg of depleted uranium counterweights fitted, can you strike sparks off it with a file?, if not, it's probably tungsten: https://wise-uranium.org/ruxcw.html Reaction of Uranium with Oxygen Uranium metal is called pyrophoric because uranium dust and small bits e.g. present in filings ignite by themselves in air.
You are onto something there, I've heard barium mentioned but haven't looked it up. Hell if I glow green on a friday ......
I’ve decided that I hate you, TWO Hurricanes, I saw the one at Turweston a couple of years ago, it had just completed a full nut & bolt restoration and looked gorgeous. You must put the engine run video on here, I bet there isn’t one bloke on here who doesn’t love the sound of a Merlin and if there is, then he is a real Muppet and he wants hung, drawn and quartered. I’m at Fishburn airfield, just north of Teeside airport EGNV. A while back, 60th anniversary of VE Day, we extended the runway to 800mtrs to allow the Grace Spitfire to land. First chance I get, I’ll come down to Elmsett and ogle at your Hurricanes
That resto was probably us (before my time) but the guys here have restored 9 now along with some other vintage stuff, the Mk1 was restored and the pilot had an error of judgement landing. Sooo.. wing and undercarriage rebuild. The Mk2 was converted to dual seat/control here, I bang my head on the airframe jig most days.. If there is interest I'll update the thread in general with the merlin doing full chat on the MK2 test. It'll be a few weeks before the other merlin is installed in the Mk1. Sorry to derail your thread. I'll look up EGNV
