Not saying copy it and paste it. But copy it all and keep it as a backup incase alloy ever goes down permenently for whatever reason. How much of a shame would it be if we lost all our old build threads and casting threads? Especially since not everyone used photobucket to host pics.
I used to backup websites to CDRom back in the day. Great reference if, as you say, things go weird you always have the history and if you need them offline. Waybackmachine should still keep older information?
I'm not the vindictive type to go to a site and erase all my hard work and I have no ill feelings toward AA. However, I don't want certain things to vanish if that site ever goes down. Bringing over important resources to here is not a bad idea.
I don't think it is carved in stone that there can only be one casting forum, or one small group of people who control all online casting conversations and discourse. Your information is your information. Placing your information on a forum does not confer ownership to the people who run the forum, it simply means that you post information with the understanding that it is for the benefit of the casting community, and also for me it means that I post with the understanding that those who run the site do so as good stewards of this information, who use it to advance the ideals of the casting community. You don't really owe a forum anything, and the forum does not owe you anything; it has to be a mutually advantageous arrangement that hopefully benefits all parties in general, and benefits the greater casting community specifically (the proverbial "win-win" situation). Problems tend to arise when there is lack of clarity about such things, or no explanation or discussion offered when there are differing opinions about how things should be. The only long-term solution to problems is to talk them out, although that is seldom the easiest or quickest path. If your ideals of what advances of the casting community differ from those who are running a given site, then there needs to be options. I support those who support an open forum that is fair, equitable, and responsive to all members, and whose ultimate goal is the advancement of casting skills in the online community.
The Only time a work product, (whether it be tangible or researched report) belongs to a corporation is when a corporation is paying an employee to get such information, then yes, it becomes sole property of that corporation. Unless otherwise explicitly expressed, the product, information, etc. belongs to the individual whom designed, built, created or researched a subject coming to an individual conclusion of such research. Zap, if you wish to start a thread here on THF of something you created then by all means go for it. To totally just wipe it clean from AA is senseless, childish and not necessary. Not saying you would do that, just commenting.
I don't have any problems with anyone who wants to "back up" their own personal works here. But please dont delete your postings from AA or copy any works that are not your own.
No depth? You made me look, I can only find the AA top page, unless I miss it the forum is not archived on the wayback machine? https://web.archive.org/web/20160815000000*/alloyavenue.com/https://web.archive.org/web/20160815000000*/alloyavenue.com/
I used website copier software before pretty succesfully. This is the one I used: http://www.httrack.com/ Here are some hints on using it to copy a forum: https://forum.httrack.com/readmsg/28981/28969/index.html If someone could spend the time to do this properly the result could be hosted and shared somewhere.
