Looking good! I used this stuff on my top edge: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-8-Black-...ash=item2121325e68:g:efEAAOSwdGFYsDSt&vxp=mtr Pete
I still think I'll probably just make a point of keeping my fingers away from the moving parts while it's running, but something like that is probably a smart idea just to keep me from cutting my fingers even while it's turned off... I'll keep it in mind for after the main parts are made and installed and working. Jeff
Sooner is better. I'm much more concerned about snagging your sleeve than I am about your finggies. Adjusting and tweeking will find you reaching in there, even if it's with a stick. It only took my sleeve getting caught once to get my attention. I split a length of vinyl tube at first but it didn't work nearly as well as the stuff I linked above. Signed, Not-your-mom
OK Pete, you've convinced me. You're probably right that this thing would suck me in and give me a good mulling eventually... Video of progress to date, including some of that snow and ice. If you've read the whole thread so far feel free to skip it as it's nothing new, other than maybe you'll get laugh out of watching me break drill bits and make my bandsaw blade keep falling off again and again. Lots of grinding and drilling and cutting and bolting-together: Jeff
I never used a "real" muller before (my 1st attempt doesn't count but I hope this one will), so I'll take all the expert advice I can get. It's gonna be really tempting to reach in for a quick squeeze test before dumping it out though. With it turned off of course... Jeff
I make it a point to read every post HT1 makes here and alloyavenue. Only a fool ignores free advice from those who truly know. Doesn't mean I have to agree though
I watched your part 2 video and see that you have a switch hidden somewhere, are you still going to use a microwave oven timer for the muller? If you are I can give you a lot of info on how to do that.
Thanks Ironsides. I watched your muller videos and your microwave timer video a couple times... The original mixer still has its own switch, but I like the idea of the timer and still want to try it. I haven't taken apart the old microwave yet or anything though. Jeff
In the interest of safety, a nice big paddle switch like this seemed like a good idea to me. Easy to hit with your knee while your "piddies" (a new term for me ;-) ) go under the wheel....
Definitely a faster choice than hunting for the "pause" button on the microwave timer... I'll not be removing the similar switch on the original mixer from the loop, just in case a fast shutdown is ever needed. It also has a yellow bit you can pull off to disable the on switch altogether, just in case ie. the kids decide the muller looks fun to play with when I'm not there to stop them... I may just wire the timer up to a plug, and plug the muller into that. That way I could use the timer to time other things too if that is ever needed. Jeff
light curtains around the thing man... Break the light curtain, motion stops. Then upgrade to a "safe limited spd" application, so you can still jog the muller around with the light curtains broken and a liveman switch held, but at a reduced rate.
I never noticed that... The kids are almost 10 and 12 so a feature like that might actually be more likely to prevent ME from turning it on! Not really too worried though, they know not to mess with my foundry stuff without permission. Jeff
Funny thing is the 4 year old can turn the kid safe feature on and off .....the 40 year old is just now finding it (because it's turned on and he's trying to warm up leftovers...but instead is now scratching his head like a monkey doing a math problem )
