It's going to be another week before I get my order of kaowool and ceramic fiber board, so a couple of other projects getting knocked out... Sheet metal brake... Crucible tongs...
Looky boys what we have here!!!!!!!!!! The Brian Oltreg 2 in 1 crucible plucker and pourer.... I sure hope you make this cad file available to the rest of us yay whoos... VEERY NICE! Is that stainless steel? SCREW EVERYONE ELSE!!! I'll take a copy of that cad file.. lol
I hope Brian doesn't mind lol. Yes, laser cut stainless. I still have to size the crucible gripper to the profile of my crucible, so it's not quite there yet. DWG files are not allowed for upload
PDF plans... enjoy Started a new thread http://forums.thehomefoundry.org/index.php?threads/crucible-tongs.175/
Very impressive. Let us know how they work and if any changes are necessary. After you get them working, I'll get em sliced out here with the local water jet dude. Spring thingamijigger??
Hi Peedee, I pretty much knocked it up from 2" x 1/4" angle for all the main structure plus 1/2" pipe and 5/8" bolts for hinges. That's it except for sizing it for my bench, max bending width is 27.5". One weld on a hinge failed today due to me beating on a hem I wanted flat. Should have taken the sheet out of the brake first, just lazy. Easy fix tho.
If you do make a metal brake I would strongly suggest all components be dry assembled, Clamped down TIGHTLY, place a spacer between the mounting plate and the bending plate, tack weld all components, (Take your time and no rushing) let your welds cool down before continuing final welding, and ONLY run enough beads to secure everything. I also suggest a fence be added. I noticed there was uneven spacing in his build between the base plate and bending plate on the far side.
