I'm too literal-minded to see fish there. Is it the clouds in some way looking like one of those rolly-polly-looking oil-pots with fins?
No Dennis, it looks a bit like the scales on a Mackerel fish. I got all this cloud business from my boating days.
Merry Christmas everyone! We got 2 days of solid rain and above freezing temps. The oh so rare Canadian beige Christmas. As long as it's not freezing rain, I'm not complaining. Jeff
And in my part of Ontario a few hundred kilometers to the west, beige Christmases are far more common but not this year, we had 1 day of solid rain followed by 1 day of snow giving us about 6 inches of the white on the ground.
If my weather briefer ever refers to cloud cover as mackerel, I'm quitting. Merry Christmas gang and hope you all have a prosperous and healthy New Year!
Mackerel skies shouldn't bother you Jason. It's the Mare's tails you should be afeared of, Mare's tails and mackerel scales make tall ships take in their sails Mackerel skies, mackerel skies, nothing long wet, nothing long dry
Xmas day brought flooding to parts of the UK. We are just waiting on storm “Bella” bringing more rain and gale force winds this afternoon and evening. Fortunately I'm not in the flood zone, but the Boxing Day flight is off, ...Bummer!
I tell my students when they ask about weird clouds, I tell them if you see something you dont see an a daily basis, Dont F with it! I have a bunch of pictures through the years of some really spooky looking clouds.
