Be nice if it could have enough material in it to make worthy of being given sticky thread status... The nut it is to replace is badly worn.  He replaced it with a 3D printed nut temporarily, but that&#039;s not cutting it, he needs bronze.  A threaded insert might have done the job, but we wound up casting a whole new nut.<br />

He came up with the 3D file for the split pattern and corebox.<br />

      <content:encoded><![CDATA[I developed K-BOND sand while teaching at Kent State University. After years of making castings in both Petrobond and green sand, I decided to develop a sand mix that works better than either, does not require a muller, is water free, smokeless and non-toxic.<br />

You can make molding sand out of beach sand, ground up kitty litter, dog shit and water. It may even work. If you are going to spend your time mixing sand to make metal castings, you should be using the highest performance sand mix...<br />

      <content:encoded><![CDATA[I am back. My electric furnace arrived. Sand was mixed. I did the green sand with 140 mesh for facing and 80 mesh for backing.<br />
Aluminum were pistons out of a motorbike, Honda I think.<br />
<br />
This was a test to see how the sprue, risers and gating worked. I also used 3000grit graphite to aide in release and flow.<br />
Poured 1/2 of an 8kg crucible.<br />
<br />
Have a look at the images. I do plan to either mix the K-Bond method or get Petrobond. Maybe.<br />
I used the Olfoundtyman method of tapered sprue and pouring...<br />

      <content:encoded><![CDATA[Hi, I recently started using Polymaker Polycast filament for lost pla casting. The frame is fairly large(9in x 7.75in) and I keep getting &#039;ErrD&#039; which might be due to the size. <br />

      <content:encoded><![CDATA[While I was building my low mass furnace I made this offset pouring basin from moldable ceramic fiber. I made a foam plug, troweled the moldable fiber onto it, and demolded after drying. I then fired it at 1800F.<br />

I&#039;ve been casting for a few years now and I do lost PLA/resin vacuum casts and ceramic shell casts. I mainly cast with silicon bronze to make sculptures and art, but I also occasionally cast simple pieces of jewelry too when inspiration strikes.<br />

I got started learning to metal cast when I had a lot of trouble attempting to make copper plated art pieces with electroplating and decided to just give casting a shot, which ended up being a lot more up my alley.<br />

I see a lot of people online using tongs to lift it out, place it in another tool to pour. I even saw someone using salad tongs to do this. I wanted one tool to remove the crucible and pour. It works, but it&#039;s a bit small and for doing cast iron melts it gets so warm hanging up high in my casting shed that the plastic handle got soft and sagged.  Also it was prone to getting air bubbles trapped in the line that could not decide whether to float back up into the tank or push through.  Almost had to abort the last pour of Doug&#039;s train wheels last summer because of that.  It also runs dry before an A12 of iron is ready to pour....<br />
