I’m still waiting for the CFB to become available, so rather than just wait, I decided to go ahead and build some of the bits I’ll need. I will need a jacket for the furnace. I considered using an old steel barrel, a propane tank or a water well accumulator, but I couldn’t find one I liked so I decided to build one. That meant I needed to roll some sheet metal into a tube. I didn’t own one nor did any of my friends, so I built one. The base is a piece of 4” channel. It has finished registration pads milled into each end for the uprights and a strap welded on each end of the underside so it can be clamped or bolted to a bench The sides are 3/4” HRS that were tacked together then machined as one piece. One side has the Oilite bushings pressed in The two lower rolls were made from a piece of chrome plated tubing I had laying around with plugs welded into the ends and then machined between centers for the bearings. The top roll is a piece of galvanized hand rail with bushings fitted into the ends that support a 1” CRS axle. Here it is assembled and painted. The best part is it seems to work pretty well!
Great craftsmanship all around! Actually embarrassed to show my electrical setup. It works great but no cool box for mounting it all. Keep up the good work.
