I don't print them any smaller, I just use the slicing software to correct for shrink (edit: if needed) and go from there. My work is mostly ornamental and usually is not machined afterwards.
I only got one melt poured yesterday, and then two thunderstorms passed through and it hosed down. Martin pointed out that the head in my video which filled at 700° included spillover from the pouring basin down the feeder, so I poured today at 720° C. This is a comparison of petrobond to my synthetic green sand. Pretty stark contrast. Today there is no rain forecast, so I will do another session. Cheers, Mark
A more productive casting session yesterday evening. Since I already had one green sand and two petrobond heads cast, I made up to two sets of PB and one of GS. No failures, all poured between 720-730°C. There was enough space in the flask that I could also cast a couple of magneto drive covers my mate needs for a 1920 New Gerard racing motorcycle restoration. Cheers, Mark
