My cop neighbor just converted his bike to electric. I took it for a spin and I ran outta BALLS before that thing ran out of pulling power. I got it to around 35 and chickened out.
Anyone here drive an electric car? Those things scare the hell out of me. I've driven a few but as an 'old' fella I'm used to noise and a clutch and things. You have a cop for a neighbour! Make him a friend
I have 2 of them on my street. One is the police chief! And it figures every time I cast metal in the driveway, he drives by on his way home from work. And here I am standing in the driveway in my chrome suit with a glowing red furnace going. He just waves. Funny he's never stopped to see wtf I'm doing.
As it should be. Just like most folks, I find that when the horn blows they slide down the dinosaur and try to leave work at work. (Unless there's overtime!)
Oh? Then you might enjoy mine. Not quite as fast, but then it's geared for pulling power - which it does have.
In my jurisdiction, electric bikes are limited to 32kph (20mph), by which I mean the e-bike must be incapable of exceeding that speed limit. An e-bike that is capable of exceeding that limit is not illegal but it must be licensed and insured the same as any conventional motor vehicle would be and getting caught operating an e-bike which has been modified to exceed the limits on a public road without the requisite license, carries a very hefty fine.
Hence lower gearing on mine. I need to pull trailers with groceries at least twice a month - and I generally travel slowly enough that I get passed with some frequency by non-electrified riders. This is still about 50% faster than what I can manage unaided, and 35 miles in an outing is quite doable under power.
Addendum to above post: rode ~ 40 miles/60 km today - dental bill, cleaning supplies, and drill bits. Took about 4 1/4 hours. Sore feet and arms - need new seat, new shoes, and moving handlebars up and back. Used about 2/3 of a charge. Was passed more than once by non-electrified riders. Needed a nap shortly after I got home, too!
I tend to avoid downpours, so I don't get out (as) much during the winter. Yesterday was fairly dry from midmorning to early evening, and today will be similar. Tomorrow, however, is likely to be "altogether damp." I'm staying home then. I'm a bit too poor at this time to have a more-usual vehicle, mostly due to operating costs.
In my area? Never was anything troubling, other than the usual stuff. Most of last year, I didn't have much that took me downtown. I usually only go there if I need to, and usually during business hours.
Off the wall question because you are from portland area. How close was the chaos last year from the Federal Reserve bank? Are we talking same street? End of the block? Within a couple of streets or flat out on the other side of town? I have an idea I've been chomping on.
Not sure, actually. Most of the 'stuff' seemed to be happening in a fairly small region of a few blocks. That, and I'd need to look up where this bank building is. Secondly, it seems that as a rule, the 'stuff' was often substantially overblown (by news agencies).
Snow that sticks for more than a day or two is rare in these parts. Last real snow was a few years back.
