I found this interesting video about a guy in Finland making a cylinder for a motor bike. What I found interesting the most was how complex the cores were. This video was the second try at pouring one, I wonder if he will have another go. There are English subtitles.
I went and watched the first two videos on the cylinder as well, This guy apparently has come very good 3d modeling skills.
