Your crucible is ok for now. When you see surface issues on the inside of your crucible, then it’s time to be concerned. I mark the faces of my flasks A-A and B-B, or else paint one side of the assembled flask gray, and the other side orange. Anything to dummy-proof the operation. HT1 posted a very good tutorial on wooden flasks once upon a time. Maybe lost on Alloy Avenue. Pete
That's normal, I touch mine up frequently. Paint another layer where the lid contacts the top. Cure it and spin the lid a little bit to create a good seal.
Fired the furnace again this afternoon. Haven't got any molds ready to go yet but wanted to melt something so just made 3 batches of ingots out of stuff I rounded up at work. Made a lot of slag because a lot of it was thin and painted (gear motor housings and the like). Found a few steel pieces I missed breaking down the scrap too. Starting to feel more comfortable with the pouring and moving the crucible around.
such is the down fall of information on the internet or digital in general. We have 2000 year old scrolls of parchment we can still read on one hand, on the other I have a 30 year old floppy disk that is only good for a drink coaster.
