If you guys go over to the Sand Casting and look for Pouring Day, you'll see my pour I did.

I believe he makes it, it's petrobond though not K-bond to be clear. I can vouch that it's good stuff. There may be a forum discount, try searching for posts by Chasft for details on that. I've used both his and the OBB sand from Foundry Supply Source in Milton ON and I can't tell the difference.

We were able to order some to a US mailbox and go pick it up for, I think after gas money it wound up to be about $6/bag cheaper than picking it up at Foundry Supply Source in Milton ON. Back when crossing the border might have looked a bit different. Foundry Supply Source was waiting on a shipment at the time.

    Hey Jeff,

    Thank you.

Well what I might do is mix up a batch of the 200 mesh from Great White North Pottery Supply before I grab some Petrobond.
After exchange and shipping Im pretty close to my quote anyways.

I'm definitely getting better and closer to the results I want.

    Cheers,
    William

Hi all, I'm getting back to my foundry after a few years absence (wife in hospice) - wanting to go the KBond route this time. I've been able to acquire all the necessary components except the sand! Cant seem to find a decent source here in the southern California high desert. I found some sand (on the Walmart website if you can imagine) that claims to be 100/120.. we will see....

I get my sand from a place that specializes in media for various forms of sandblasting.
Typically I get their 130 product. I have a bag of finer stuff I have not tried yet.
When that is not available, the fine sand used in a mortar mix (just sand no cement) seems pretty good too.
There is also a texturing sand that I can get local which has worked nice for backing up lost foam.
I have lost patience for dealing with lower priced damp 'play sand' with all of its 'plants and (birds) and rocks and things..."

Tried blasting sites near me, all have coarse sand that nowhere near 100+ I may end up biting the bullet and making the trek to green diamond vendor 6-7 hours away, but first, since I live in the desert, going to try a set of sieves to sift out 100 from the sand on my property

does the place where you got yours ship?

The fastest way to get fine sand is to winnow it.
Lay out a tarp, put a good fan on a chair, hold a board over the fan and pour a cup at a time so it bounces off the board and into the air stream. The finest sand will be at the far end. Run it through your 100 mesh sieve. Saves a lot of time this way.
    Wear a dust mask.

This I do not know. They are about an hour's drive one way for me in a part of town that has other suppliers I use for other things so I try to make multiple stops once I am there. The stuff I get is the Covia 5030.

    Hi JTMD,

I got my 200 mesh from Great White North pottery in Ontario. They also have the 140 mesh as well.

    Cheers,

    William

I ended up getting an 80 and 140 sieve and did it by hand. I bought 200 mesh from Great White North pottery.

    Cheers,
    William
