The kids and I have been making aluminum muffins for a few years with a few different furnace styles, but it's time to step up our game. We have begun disassembling old pianos to use the cast iron harps as feedstock for our castings.

It's a bit ambitious, and will probably take a few years of practice, but I want to be able to cast one of these for our home. It's basically an old Enterprise grain mill flywheel with a Kitchenaid attachment port.

Only question before we get started is with respect to coating the ceramic wool. Is ITC-100 a suitable replacement for Zircoat? Have we determined if best practice is to paint it directly onto the wool, or should we be using an intermediate castable refractory in between the wool and ITC?

Looking forward to contributing more as we push forward.
