I know it is very painful in the wallet, but you just cant beat real pattern letters from Freeman, if you want 1/4 the plastic are great, but dont get any other size in plastic ( they have mounting holes that are extremely hard to fill ), all other sizes buy white metal

Can you believe I did this 25 years ago. And I did it with 30 year old Dymo Labeler. Three D printing was just starting to show up.
I used numbers I made in Bondo to identify the inlet passages on the intake manfold of the smallblock.
As I remember I just embossed a run of numbers 1-8 on the tape, stripped the protective covering off the adhesive side and dusted it with perhaps baby powder to kill the glue. With the strip tacked flat on a work surface a small batch of body filler was spread onto the tape being careful to reduce any flash between the numbers. When the Bondo has set the tape can be flexed to eject the pieces. I may have touched the back with a little sandpaper to insure it was flat.
Placement is straight forward with the goal of equal area between digits for the best appearance. I might have used Super Glue to stick them, but since they were being placed on a wood pattern I might have used a thin coat of Bullseye Shellac. That allowed the digits to be moved into position with dental picks.

Hmm the letters just flexed with the tape when I used the non sticky side. Parting powder, eh? If only I hadn't broken my old Dymo gun trying to get decent impressions last time I tried...

I have some 1/4" 3D letter stickers coming that I ordered before HT1 replied. Might not be any good, but I'll post about it either way when they come in and I've had had a chance to play with them.

    Thanks guys,

    Jeff
