Quick question. I am using a match plate with 4 two-piece parts, half above and half below. Should I add a fillet to the part / match plate interface which will become the parting line or should I leave these corners sharp? Thanks!
Hi Bruce, I would add something small, enough to convince the sand to stay out of the joint between patterns and the plate. I am a hobbyist, the professionals might have something different in mind. Have you seen any of @HT1 's work regard matchplates? https://forums.thehomefoundry.org/index.php?threads/ht1s-pattern-library.1936/#post-49215
thats the idea! if your pattern and the plate are dead flat and you get the glue on perfect, get good squeze out and clean it up well with qtip s wax is not required, especially on shallow patterns but on deep patterns and sand getting under the pattern can cause issues in pilling the pattern, remember any wax you add will have to be cleaned off the finished casting so be as frugal as possible ( this is why solid matchplates milled out of metal or other materials are so good, less clean up) V/r HT1
