Ahhh, the glory days of life before OSHA.

As much as I dislike OSHA, I approve of the safety aspects of it as long as it is reasonable stuff, and doesn't cause entire industries to close and move overseas (which is ultimately what OSHA has done and continues to do to the US with absurd regulations that are not about safety, but about a big agency that is directed by ignorant bureaucrats, which we seem to have a bumper crop of these days).

Some sort of inoculant added at the beginning.

This one is also kind of interesting, especially the mold wash.

    Large babbitt bearings.
I have specified this process when I do projects with large motors that need new babbitt bearings (one bearing cap in excess of 500 lbs).

This is also how they make bearing for large turbines and other large items with rotating shafts.

I have seen large babbitt bearings last for 60 (+) years or more with the proper oiling on slow speed machines.
The babbitt eventually begins to separate from the shell and needs to be re-cast in one of these machines.
