A friend of mine asked me if I was interested in some “forging” tools. Mr N. is 102 years old and they’re cleaning out the house. He retired in 1970 or so and focused on his art including sculpture and investment casting. Apparently home made bronze. His house is in a suburban residential neighborhood and he quietly built a 12x12 block building in his back yard that looks like a tool shed with a chimney. I didn’t look at his gas meter, but the foundry was plumbed with what looks like 1-1/2 natural gas. Piping was all painted blue. It looks like it was done legit. I didn’t even see how the burner was set up. He had a 16” crucible furnace with a chain fall and trolley overhead. He also had a burnout kiln built in the middle of the building built all out of block and mortar, lined in firebrick. The working area was super small. I’m not sure how he did it, as he was doing some pretty large castings. It can’t be any more than 6x8 feet in the furnace/pouring area. I ended up with about 100# of his home made bronze in the form of returns.
Anyway, here’s the haul in no particular order.

Came with a large amount of wheels, stones, and polishing accessories as well as a complete set of Collet Assortment #440 for the Fordom

Unfortunately that huge crucible has a huge crack in it. It’s a goner I’m afraid.

$350 took it all. Who knows how much use I’ll get out of it. If you wait around long enough my kids will sell it to you cheap!

Good score. If you don't do the blacksmith thing, dump that crap on fleabay, you'll easily get your money back.

Good score. The bronze alone was worth the price.

    Best,

Like Kelly said, the bronze alone was worth it, not to even mention the tin!

I’m reposting a picture from above. Can anyone tell me the intended purpose for these hooks and what they’re called? I have little use for them presently and certainly have too many.
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks Jammer. No wonder my friend the deer butcher was so interested!
