David, what are you using to coat with? I used a primer on a PLA a gear I sent to Pat, but sanding was a major PITA.
Ok, so the foundry is back up and running. Poured 16 parts and had the kiln trip the breaker letting the flasks cool off too much and having the investment fracture a bit on 4 of the castings. Good thing I only needed 12 So now back to this project.... Treed up the parts tonight with a couple different gating strategies and ran into another problem.... I cant get the friggin lid off the suspenda slurry I'll take a hammer to it in the morning, wife sleeping right now...
First coat of suspend a slurry going on. Hope to pour in a few days.. Glad I havent redone the fireplace room yet or my wife probably would not let me do this inside.
"Ceramic shell casting, by an open fire" "Wife bitching up a storm....." okay, not a songwriter. Yeah! Me too! How many layers of stucco you going with? A DOZEN?
I need to think of something to tell you so I can tell you I told you so, but nothing is coming to mind. Drumroll........
There is no written rules or books on lost pla casting. Sometimes you just have to try it and see what happens... If the shell holds up, I am certain I'll be just fine. But I am pushing the limits of the shell material....
This is interesting. I do have a question. Is this all to replace one missing chair hinge, or is there a market for these? Good exercise anyway.
One hinge, the market for them evaporated somewhere in the nineteenth century I believe. I don't have a picture of it or I'd share, but it is an interesting chair at least; which reminds me I need to hassle her for some pictures.
