The Cussed Vagaries of Casting

    The drinking straw looking core from the navy manual screenshot didn't look like what I'd heard described before, but the V shaped notch does. Here's where that came up before in the saggy risers thread. Fwiw:

    Very odd to get shrink in one cavity but not other in same mold. My first thought is one cavity is filling first and is hotter. Could be several different things but the first thing I would do is make the gating symmetrical from one casting to the other so they are identical and fill at the same rate and time....so if you mess up you will lose both castings and are not scratching your head wandering why you only lost one.LOL
