I have quite a bit of tin coated copper wire, I figure that if I melt it down it would become an alloy and (obviously) not be pure copper. Can anyone tell me what the alloy would be? Some kind of brass maybe?

Some kind of bronze, I think.

Definitely something that should be isolated from pure copper?

you will get industrial copper, technically a tin Bronze , very similiar to US pennies prior to 1962 95%Cu-5% Sn
Industrial copper is very commom in items that must be machined and drilled Torch and Mig tips being the item most of us would be familiar with .
alot of large electric components are actually industrial copper, not pure copper if they do not directly carry current
