      <content:encoded><![CDATA[I&#039;ve been picking up cheap used tools on kijiji (older Canadian online want ads website) for a few years now whenever a deal comes up that I can&#039;t resist.  So I have got a couple different bench grinders with the intention of having different grinding/sanding/buffing wheels all ready to go when I want them.  But I need more space to set them up.<br />

      <content:encoded><![CDATA[This guy!! Started my melt for the sword I&#039;m gonna pour and didn&#039;t check first to see if some pieces I had were zinc. Mixed them in with some of the aluminum and not much later on... POOF!!! Zinc cloud! Hauled ass holding my breath while quickly turning the gas off. Thankfully it dissipated pretty fast and worst of it is I&#039;m down an Amazon crucible. Lesson learned.]]></content:encoded>

Just finished up a final version of this silicon bronze ash tray I&#039;ve been working on for a while. Cast as one piece in a petrobond mold. Layered patina using a cold darkening solution followed by several hot applications of ferric nitrate in varied concentrations. Big Ed, the last born of 16 kids. His sister Betty, the first born and the last to go, passed a day later.<br />

A little project that was requested by a friend of mine. These are made of my homebrew 953 aluminum bronze alloy, cast in petrobond using a 3D printed 2-part pattern of my own design. Riser and gates removed via bandsaw, and finishing stages included work with a belt sander, orbital sander, rotary polishing bits, and a some time on the buffing wheel. I&#039;ve only recently gotten into this whole melting/casting thing.  I&#039;ve been focusing on doing Aluminum melts, and about to do my first brass and copper melts. <br />

One big decision is what metal to use. These are the metals I’m aware have been used to make mouthpieces:<br />
<br />
brass/bronze, tin alloy/“silverite”, stainless steel, aluminum, and probably silver<br />
<br />
Stainless is totally out of the question but I can do the others….although brass/bronze/silver are kinda pushing it<br />

Aluminum is easy to deal with but seems pretty uncommon...<br />
