So I came across this a while back while trying to figure out how to forge some steel bells for my employer I think it would make an excellent subject for a contest I can see these being made with almost any casting method, which could make it interesting for everyone CROTAL BELLS an interesting article on the Crotal Bell, history, construction: http://www.ukdfd.co.uk/pages/crotal-bells.html There's a neat bit at the bottom illustrating sand-molding for a one-piece bell, but I can't quite work out how that would work out in reality. This wouldn't be a Halloween contest, but perhaps Christmas/winter season? Opinions?
I like this idea. A little tough but what is a contest without a challenge? I am in if this goes down. Patrick
Neat article. Took me a second to figure out why they embed an iron ball inside the core... When it finally hit me I felt like a bit of a ding-a-ling for not getting it right away. Jeff
I think an interestig competition would be to to have the engineering guys to do something artistic and vis versa. or to cast somethig using a different method to what you usually use eg a lost wax caster to try sand casting etc.
Love the article, Here is one to help anyone trying to make them http://www.clarendonvthistory.org/C...7-460E-BCBB-9D1E7EF68764&ID=2376&Type=19&XS=A
I may be interested. I want to make a bell for svseeker's ship. I've been delaying it for ages due to life. But if we do a contest may be worth it. How many months do we have to prep?
