Applying Satanite

  1. Hey all!

Sorry haven't been on in awhile, had emergency surgery! So much fun!!

Just wanted to ask before I get started finally, when applying Satanite to the kaowool in my furnace do I need a respirator and should I be outside? I assume yes on the respirator with the lining but the Satanite itself isn't toxic is it?? Thanks in advance!!

I don't use one. I've applied and cooked small amounts of it in my downstairs garage. Now if you're doing a whole furnace, outside or an open door would be best because it stinks when curing. Apply a thin layer then cure before adding another layer.

I just mix it up as a slurry and paint it on. Not suggesting I'm the sharpest tool, but I didn't bother with a respirator. Probably better safe than sorry, but it seemed easy enough to mix in the water without throwing a bunch into the air.

There's the ceramic fiber blanket shedding loose fibers to worry about too, at least until the first layer or some kind of rigidizer goes on. I didn't mask up when I satanited my furnace either but it's not a bad idea IMO
