I was looking for an inexpensive way to cut tapered sprues. I walked past a couple of scrap Briggs & Stratton engines that I had laying around (doesn't everyone have engines laying around?) and it hit me. The oil fill tubes. They are plastic and have a nice taper to them. I cut off the part at the bottom that goes into the engine and sharpened the end on a disk sander. It worked great! Below is an image of an uncut one and the one I modified.

Nice, I always ram sand around my sprues and risers and then remove them. I suppose I could try cutting..I feel like I'd miss or go too deep.
