Was trying to get a casting session in this morning of some fine silver neck charms. Everything was going well the flask was burned out clean over night and I transferred it to a small oven on the casting bench to keep it hot while I torch melted some silver.

So I pulled the flask and set it on the vacuum table, switched on the pump and went to pour... As soon as the molten metal entered the flask I heard it!! Swoosh gurgle gurgle OH Frack !!
    GRRR...
thats just how it goes some days.....

Whoops. What causes that? Improper mix of the investment or burnout cycle?

I was using up some old investment and had mixed it a little thin. (Investment powder goes bad and will set up really fast on you) The second factor was i did not have the flask completely full of the investment so there was about a 1/4" gap from being completely full. That gap was between the investment and the table when the vacuum was pulled. When I poured the silver it sealed up the flask and then the bottom portion of the investment got sucked out of the flask... That will teach me not to rush things...

That suxs. I can see that air gap being a factor too.
