I'm a woodworker so the craft and trade of pattern making is as interesting to me as that of moulding. There seems to be generally limited amounts of information out there concerning this trade and craft. I read a book from 1904 this morning about patternmaking, it wasn't all that great. I just found another one from 1887 so we will see what that's like. I would love to learn more about traditional pattern making. Are there any good resources out there? Something like the navy foundry manual but for pattern makers? Any skilled guys on YouTube that show patternmaking?

The only 2 professional patternmakers on YouTube that I know of are Dave Clark the Pattern Guy and Roscoe Pattern works. Dave's a nice guy, he sent me a cool T shirt with his logo on it, far as I can tell just for being interested in what he's doing, and I have one of his 'safety sanders' that I use often. He has hours of videos on how to make good patterns. He compares it to making furniture, except you're allowed to use bondo. Making one of Roscoe's boss spinners for my disc sander is on my list too. Ended up ordering some leather filled material from a filletexpress website. Could order small amount so we will see if it shows up ok. Ended up ordering the cheap ball tools off Amazon made for cake decorating or something too. Figure they will work to get started. Ended up ordering a mifco probe too so guess I'm building a pyrometer now. Is freeman hobby friendly for ordering small amounts? They seem to be the major supplier of patternmaking supplies but they seemed more geared towards the pros.
I got an alcohol lamp from Amazon. I have yet to try store-bought fillet wax. If the ball tools are 2-up, they can be cut in half and installed on a wooden peg as a handle. I made wax scrapers from recycled steel pallet banding. https://www.youtube.com/@mrpete222 has some videos on fillets tips #664 and #665 https://www.youtube.com/@ChirpysTinkerings has a video on fillets, a fillet extruder, and a leather fillet plane
I haven't ordered from Freeman in a while, but I went through the application process, was approved, and could order online without issue. If you can get signed up to order online, I highly recommend it. After you get your account set up you can see pricing in real time. Professional quality stuff. Best, Kelly
So my leather fillets arrived. I ordered them from fillet express. Was able to order 10 feet of 1/8, 3/16, and 1/4. Quality seems good. Took a couple weeks to get here but that's OK.
