I make replicas of bronze age daggers, axes, tools using naturally occurring adobe/sand material. I've been thinking of trying a baked clay mold, ( I can make the clay using the same material). But what to use for the pattern? Wax of course would be the modern choice and probably what I'd use but I was wondering what the ancients used. I'm pretty sure they would have had bee's wax in some areas, maybe it was even was a trade item, or possibly cold animal tallow.

I just cast for a hobby to keep me out of the bars or off street corners, (yea right, at my age ;)) but wondered if anyone had tried something similar and maybe had some historical knowledge, experience or tips to share.

A few of my early attempts, the pic sucks, the black point on the middle image is actually bright polished as are the others, I don't know how to do the proper lighting.
