Resizing 55 gallon 200L Drum

    I trimmed a little more where two inner pieces butted together and assembled as shown. Since I am 'proud' about 1/2" (12mm) with the refractory my wooden cam is no longer able to give 1" (25mm) nominal lift. So either I re-design the cam before making it in metal or add shims as mentioned by @Melterskelter a while back.

    I'd go with the bigger cam. The less movement in there the better. It's good that you have good access for WD 40 or PB Blaster. You'll need it if the rust sets in.

    Thanks Pete. Another way to go might be to cut the tab holding the lid to the outer sliding pipe and re-welding it with the 1/2" difference and any other adjustments needed after the body refractory is in. tops_4june2023_2b.jpg
