Should We Have Means of Informing Members of Forum Status During Outages?

Good idea. Having known some of you for over a decade now, I'd be happy to swap emails with many of my friends here. I've got a few addresses already but too many more to DM individually. I think you all know who you are, please feel free to DM me if you're interested in trading emails.

That's all on a personal note, not official forum business. But I don't mind sending a few replies such as 'weird, all seems to be working fine on my end' or 'no idea but no it's not just you' once in a while if needed.

Thanks for getting us back up online, David!

I didn't know you were funding the forum out of your own pocket. I don't read EVERYTHING that's written here, but sometimes I guess it helps to read the fine print. Contribution sent.

Semi-related and not worth making a new thread for: Anyone else having issues logging in on Chrome? Ever since that outage I am getting the error that cookies must be enabled. Before that I was able to access by whitelisting the site in chrome settings, but that no longer works apparently. Curious if anyone has figured that out.

Logged in w/ Chrome at work and worked the post and edit functions, no issues so far.

Strange, I tried turning off all my extensions too but no dice. Using Edge currently, I guess I'll just have to go mess around with my Chrome settings until I can get something to work.

I've been having a weird problem, it started two or three days ago, I have three computers that I use to view this forum, with three different versions of Windows, the computer that I use most often is Windows 10 and it's the only one that's having the problem. I'm using the latest version of Firefox, I have to log into the forum every time even though I've checked the "Stay logged in" box. And it's only thehomefoundry forum that has the issue, I don't have this problem with any of the other forums that I use.

    Windows 8.1 and Firefox...no problems.

Me too, no problems with either Windows 8.1 or Windows 11, it's just Windows 10 that's giving me problems, and up until a few days ago, there was no problem that either, wtf?

That started happening to me on my phone for a few months a while back everytime I'd check in here. Then it just stopped doing that. Weird.

I was able to fixed it although, I have absolutely no idea why my fix worked. First, I cleared the site cookies and site data, that didn't work so I looked at the site permissions, there are 16 of them and they were all set to the default so, I blocked all of them, that seemed to do the trick, curious as to which of the permissions might have caused the problem, I reset them back to the default, one at a time, testing after each change, eventually, I changed all 16 back to the default setting and it was still working so why messing with the permissions seemed to work is a total mystery to me but I'm glad to have things back to normal.

Computers sometimes have brain-farts too, especially after Microsoft does an update. WIN8.1 is no longer being "fixed" by MS so they aren't putting their fingers in your pie anymore. It's hard to tell what will break when you "FIX" something in software that convoluted. I've got a WIN7, WIN8.1, WIN10 and WIN11 - and they've ALL got their particular foibles.

I had to go through all of this again after the most recent update of Firefox.
Anyone else had the same problem?

It happens to me a couple times per year. I have never figured out what makes it occur or why it stops occurring. I tried many things including those you mentioned. In my case, it definitely is not a browser update, at least for me.

It's possible it wasn't due a browser update but the problem reoccurred around that same time as the update so, that's just my best guess.
